Thanks for the ICT Core skills feedback so far. Appears we are in the same boat. Sharing of good practice is definitely something we should be doing. We have created some generic assessments but don’t have anything to go by on whether they are hitting the target. Seems to be there is a lot of focus on contextualised teaching. As I said our IT staff are taking groups from other curricular areas and trying there best to contextualise. We have a two hour slot for 18 weeks to teach learners generic and subject related material for a wide range of groups and levels. Difficult for each member of staff and standardisation and verification will be a problem.
Appreciate feedback. We need to think about creating an ICT core skills group

I can really appreciate this. I am avoiding the new IT core skills as long as possible for this very reason, but colleagues have started on the communications ones. Seems as though we have taken a step back to, as you say, multiple colleges inventing assessment tasks for the same purposes. Maybe we don't have to create structured formal assessments, but it's hard to moderate as well as standardise the level across the college if we don't.
Couldn't we share these? The SQA like to stay out of this kind of thing, presumably to avoid being seen to recommend one assessment or another. Sorry I don't have anything yet to share as I haven't started yet, but when I have, you'll all be welcome to them!

Hi, I know this might not be the forum for ICT Core skills but I need advise from anyone who is implementing the ICT core skills for the first time. I will tell you my predicament.
We are teaching this to other curricular areas and are trying to contextualise material for learners. For example, hairdressing students, motor vehicle students, hospitality, etc. From the information contained in the unit spec and assessment pack we are assuming we do not need to create a structured formal assessment but that evidence on learner achievement can be gathered from work generated in learner activities. Here lies the problem, creating work for so many different areas. We will also be offering Level 4, 5 and 6.
Can anyone give me infomration on how their College is approaching this. Has anyone devised a learning plan to at least have some structure for the 4 tasks for level 5. It seems to me there will be Colleges all over Scotland re creating the wheel!
