My experience is that Core Skills are usually taught by Core Skills teachers, and that contextualisation is virtually nil as they don't have the subject expertise. Some proactive staff work with their subject-specialists to ensure some contextualisation, but it doesn't happen often. This is a real shame. Sometime subject-specific staff have to teach Core Skills (I have taught 'working with others'), which can lead to more contextualised learning. However, I would find it difficult to lever core skills numeracy into some subject areas, such as graphic design, as I don't see where some of the numeracy requirements can be fulfilled. This is very difficult and I'd applaud any attempt to tackle this nationally (and am willing to participate).
